Join Our Team as an Accounts Assistant in our Finance Department!
Proper Cornish has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team based in Bodmin. This is a varied, hands-on position at the heart of our finance function, ideal for someone who is detail-driven, analytical, and passionate about supporting a fast-paced FMCG food manufacturing business.
Working as part of a friendly and supportive Finance team, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and supporting the smooth running of day-to-day finance operations across the business.
Hours of work: 09:00 until 17:00
Days of work: Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Controls
Support the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports
Manage fixed assets, prepayments, nominal ledger analysis, and reconciliations
Assist with year-end audit preparation and requirements
VAT & Compliance
Prepare and reconcile monthly VAT returns
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
Product Costing & Analysis
Produce and analyse product costings to support pricing and profitability decisions
Provide financial insight to support commercial decision-making
Payroll Support
Assist in the accurate processing of weekly and monthly payrolls on a rotational basis
Support payroll calculations, tax deductions, and reconciliations
Accounts & Treasury Support
Support Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
Assist with treasury and cash management activities
Help resolve finance-related queries across departments
Continuous Improvement & Team Support
Cross-train across finance functions to provide flexible team support
Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives
Provide cover during absences or peak workload periods
Essential Requirements
AAT qualification (or working towards)
Strong numerical and analytical skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Good organisational and time management abilities
Proficiency with IT systems and financial software
A team player with a professional and confidential approach
A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
